About and contact
I am a full time oil painter living in Wellington.
I am largely self-taught and have expanded my knowledge through artist workshops, studying and experimenting. Over time I have developed my own style and technique in oils. I am an active member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Art and the Khandallah Art Group and my work is exhibited at various galleries and shows in New Zealand, including the NZ Art show and Nelson Art Show. I have work held in private collections throughout New Zealand and internationally.
Animals are a favourite subject with New Zealand bird life featuring predominantly. I find the NZ bush an enchanting place with tangled vines, twisted branches and dappled leaves intermingled with birds and their song. It is a place where I reconnect and find peace in solitude. I try to capture some of that magic in my painting and create a reflection of my personal response to what I have observed. I use thin glazes and often work back to reveal the underpainting, the scratching back and removal of paint plays as important a role in my creative process as the application does. The ever changing skies over Wellington also inspire me, and in many of my landscapes the sky takes up most of the canvas.
I am happy to accept commissions.
